New England Match Best Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores during the current campaign
The New England Patriots equaled their top unbeaten stretch from the Brady era as they defeated division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad claimed an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the New England's lead at the top of the division as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had taken the lead at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' initial series
But the New England responded in the second quarter as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye commented on the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
